Where are you from?

Born and raised in Hong Kong, lived in United Kingdom for 10 years, currently based in Hong Kong.
I speak fluent English, Cantonese, moderate Mandarin.

Three words to describe you:

Positive | Driven | Disciplined

What is your background in Photography? How did your work evolve over the years?

It was a journey of discovery to be honest. Being a very experimental creative, I wanted to get my hands on to as many projects as possible. I started by doing a lot of event photography in 2015 (events such as overseas weddings, celebrity birthday parties, corporate press events), and slowly made my way into commercial photography in 2017. My photography style had always been seen as minimal colour palette, authentic moments and “effortless”; all these qualities slowly attracted clients who want to be more relatable and real to their audience. My background in event and commercial photography was a stepping stone to helping Cathay Pacific Airway transition to a modern look and feel in 2019.

Do you have a motto?

Produce work so good that everyone wants a piece of it.

It must be quite an unique opportunity for you to be an aviation photographer in your 20s? Can you briefly go through what it was like working for Cathay Pacific as a photographer in your 20s?

It is truly a mind blowing experience. Really thankful to Ruaraidh Smeaton and Tiffany Lam for accepting me onboard, they were incredibly open and supportive when it comes to the photography work I’ve produced. I was able to achieve many accomplishments all thanks to their leadership and an amazingly talented team they’ve put together. Really grateful for being able to grow as a professional in such a supportive environment.

One of the most important thing I learnt is that team work produce dream work. I love and enjoy creating work with a group of creatives- Art directors, producers, assistants, lighting masters, graphic designers… Everyone’s skills and experiences are influential to a successful project, I love seeing everyone work together with the same goal in mind. That ‘in the flow’ energy is what I love in every photography project, that feeling is irreplaceable.

What are your most memorable projects?

As a creative, I thrive on adventures that not many get to experience. Being in Cathay I was able to work on projects that many can only dream about.

1) A350-1000 Aircraft + inflight photoshoot on ground
2) Shanghai Lounge Photoshoot
3) Destination photography (Seattle, LA)

Any brands would you like to collaborate with in the future?

Oh so many! The best part about Photography is that there are so many opportunities in this field. There are two from the top of my mind- Aman Resorts and Swire Properties. It would be a dream come true to produce quality work for these two brands. I believe my background in architecture and premium lifestyle photography are great identity match to these two brands. This wish may seem unattainable but I like to aim high- All things are possible for one who believes.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I'm an explorer at heart and love to spend time in nature as much as I can, being away from technology also help bring clarity to the mind. I believe there are healing qualities to being in nature- calm the mind, cleanse external noises and focus on being in the moment. On quiet sunny days, you’ll find me on the beach and in the weekend I like to explore hiking or kayak routes with friends.

I also workout regularly and recently joined dragonboat. Learning is a big part of my life, it’s humbling to share experiences with people who are dedicated and passionate to the sports. It motivates and inspires me to do better in my photography work.

What next?

I’m really focusing on personal development and growth at the moment, strengthening personal core beliefs such as being humble and righteous. It is tempting in a world we live in today where everything is so easily accessible via shortcuts, and I continuously work on being truthful and honest in every situation. Living a healthy active lifestyle is also very important, I’m also learning to work out consistently, keeping it a habit. Consistency is the key to success in life.

If there are three wisdom you can leave behind on earth, what would they be?

  • Be humble. I’m able to learn and discover more knowledge with an open heart. It is essential to be an active listener to understand people better.

  • Be consistent. It’s incredibly easy to loose ourselves in this fast pace world we live in. We can’t control the external factors, but we can control our perceptions and actions. If there is something I’m interested in or passionate about, I’ll focus on being better at it everyday. I really believe doing that not only benefit myself but also the people around me.

  • Have hope. If you believe in something strongly, have hope and don’t give up. There is a time and place for everything, what is meant for you will come to you. Continue to be the best version of yourself and you will attract what is right for you.
